Meet Rob Sikkel

I have been a REALTOR® with @properties Christie's International Real Estate for over 20 years, during which time I have lived in and specialized in the Bucktown, Wicker Park, and West Town communities. Growing up in West Michigan, my grandfather was an architect and custom home builder, my grandmother was his designer, and my aunt and uncle were both real estate agents.  As I started college, my older brother became a real estate attorney and co-owner of a property management business that, in part, manages over 100 residential units that my family has acquired over the years. In 2002 I was in my first year of Law School at Chicago-Kent College of Law and started to notice the amount of residential real estate development around the city. A friend of a friend, at the time, had started selling real estate and through some conversations with him, I felt that there was a real opportunity for me to build a career in something I was both passionate about and had been surrounded by my entire life. So, in 2003, after completing my first year of law school, I obtained my real estate license and started my career with, what was at the time, a small, newer brokerage firm, named @properties - who, over the next 20 years, would become one of the most influential real estate brokerages in the nation and go on to acquire the Christie's International brand and use its industry-leading tools and resources in markets around the world.  

 

I was born with a calm, patient, and positive demeanor, and have always loved forming relationships with new people and helping others. These core skill sets were essential for me to build a book of business in an emotional field and in a city that I had recently relocated to, especially with a network of mostly graduate students not yet ready to buy....much less sell. I threw myself into learning Chicago, neighborhood by neighborhood and eventually block by block. I had spent numerous summer weekends in this city, cheering on my favorite sports teams, as well as winter shopping trips along Michigan Avenue, but having the opportunity to really learn its inner workings and energy was a profoundly rewarding process that I still enjoy today. I built my initial business through sitting at open houses and meeting buyers in the field and through those early conversations, I was able to really learn what buyers were looking for, both from their future home, as well as from their broker representation......and I built a business centered around those early lessons I learned.  

 

In those early years of grinding and networking, I had the privilege of getting to know and represent a few young residential developers (Contemporary Concepts, Product Construction, and Bereza Co) in addition to working with Ranquist Development customizing my own residence, where I learned everything I could from that process to help the developers I was working with on everything from land acquisition to unit type and floor plan optimization, to finish level and selections. Over the years I have sold over $35,000,000 of Residential New Construction (MRED, LLC, based on closed sales data, 1/01/2003 - 1/31/2024) and the experience in that space elevates my ability to effectively market every home I represent by truly understanding its finish level and features, as well as guide buyers in seeing quality construction details or the alternative.  

 

Over the past 20 years, in addition to working on Residential New Construction Projects, I have also been busy helping resale clients with renovations and investor clients create sizeable residential multi-unit portfolios. I have a team of architects, general contractors, and subs that I work closely with, which allows me to seamlessly plug clients into a process that allows them to consider value and opportunities to maximize rents in their apartment buildings or my sellers dress up a property prior to listing in order to maximize returns and minimize market time.
