You might know him as K-ROC or the leader of ROC Realty Group. You might also know him as the two-time Real Estate ‘Visionaries’ award winner.
However you know him, Kevin Rocio is undoubtedly one of Chicago’s top commercial real estate brokers.
We recently sat down with Kevin to learn about his road to becoming an award-winning real estate pro.
At Home with Kevin Rocio
@properties: How do you start each day?
Kevin: My morning begins around 3 a.m. Most people are shocked when they hear that. However, the majority of our clients are from outside the U.S. and between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. we are on WhatsApp or emailing. I love it!
@properties: Describe your own first home.
Kevin: My first place was in Lisle. I was living in the dorms at Elmhurst College but the closets were too small so I bought a 2-bedroom condo instead and commuted. It was the smartest decision I had made up until that point.
@properties: What is the first big-ticket item you bought when you moved into your current home and why?
Kevin: My smart TV. It allows me to work remote so I can spend more time with kiddROC, my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
At Play with Kevin Rocio
@properties: What do you love most about Streeterville?
Kevin: The tourists, the neighborhood vibe, views, proximity to Michigan Avenue, the River, and the lakefront.
@properties: Where is your favorite local restaurant?
Kevin: Harold’s Chicken in Chicago’s West Loop. Needs no explanation. 4 wings lunch special. *mic drop*
@properties: How do you stay involved in your community?
Kevin: There are a couple ways I do this. I am a member of the Streeterville Organization of Active Residents (SOAR) and a board member for the Albany Park Community Center.
@properties: You have a full free day in your town with no obligations & cost is no object. What would you do?
Kevin: My bucket-list items for Summer 2018 include an architecture tour and helicopter tour.
@properties: What is your proudest achievement to date?
Kevin: Professionally, building one of the strongest commercial real estate brands in the real estate community.
Personally, helping others achieve financial freedom through real estate investing.
At Work with Kevin Rocio
@properties: How did you decide that real estate was the right career for you?
Kevin: After 17 years as one of Chicago’s top mortgage brokers, I wanted to retire from lending and stay involved in real estate at some level.
@properties: How did your previous experiences prepare you for real estate?
Kevin: As I mentioned before, being one of the top residential lenders, I knew that I didn’t want to be a residential broker.
A commercial brokerage seemed to fit perfectly with my analytical skills and yet it allows me to be creative in my branding.
@properties: What is your favorite part of the job?
Kevin: It’s two-fold: being a trusted advisor to our clients and a valuable resource for residential agents.
@properties: What is one thing you literally could not do your job without and why?
Kevin: My phone. I literally receive more than 100 emails a day and the phone allows me to delete on the go so that only the important emails are waiting for me when I sit down.
@properties: Tell us the craziest thing that has ever happened to you on the job.
Kevin: Touring an apartment building with clients and walking into a den of sin. LOL.
@properties: What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Kevin: “Everybody’s got a story to tell and it’s just as important as your own. So take the time to listen; you may learn something.” – Mama Rocio
@properties: What is one piece of advice you’d give to a new real estate agent?
Kevin: Pick a discipline, stick with it, and be the best at it.
