Incorporated in 1958 as a response to the threat of annexation by neighboring Vernon Hills, Indian Creek is less than 0.3 square miles, all land, making it the smallest area of any incorporated place in Lake County.
Schools – Indian Creek is served by the Hawthorn School District, including Hawthorn Elementary Schools North and South, Hawthorn Aspen Elementary School, Hawthorn Townline Elementary School, as well as Hawthorn Middle School North and South and Vernon Hills High School.
