Located 24 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, the city of Rolling Meadows was incorporated in 1955 and named for its gently rolling terrain. Farmer Orrin Ford became the first landowner in the area in 1836, when he claimed 160 acres of forest originally known as Plum Grove.
