Incorporated as a village in 1937, Round Lake Beach began to take shape in the 1930s thanks to real estate developer L.B. Harris, who began to offer inexpensive homes in the area. The village expanded rapidly following World War II, as many families were seeking to move farther from the city.
The average sales price for a single-family home in the Round Lake Beach MLS area, which also includes Round Lake, Round Lake Heights and Round Lake Park, was $99,827 in 2012. Students in Round Lake Beach are primarily served by Round Lake Area Schools Community School District 116, which includes five elementary schools, two middle schools and Round Lake High School. The community also has a Metra station on Metra's North Central Line, providing transportation to Chicago's Loop.
