Westchester

Westchester is a village in Cook County encompassing over three-and-a-half square miles west of downtown Chicago. First settled by German farmers in the mid-1800s, Westchester founder Samuel Insull purchased the land in 1924 with the intention of developing an English-styled town and thus, many of the street names are of English origin.

Students in Westchester are served by School District 92.5, which includes Westchester Primary School (K-2), Westchester Intermediate School (3-5), Westchester Middle School (6-8) and Brittain School for special needs. High school students attend Proviso West High School in Hillside, and may apply to Proviso Math and Science Academy in Forest Park. Residents in the community enjoy easy access to downtown Chicago thanks to the Eisenhower Expressway and the nearby Fox Park Transit Center, which offers Pace bus service and a CTA Blue Line station.

The village of Westchester is characterized by its many brick properties. The 2012 average sales price for a single-family home in Westchester was $158,342, and $207,972 for a condominium.

Westchester offers many year-round events and activities for the community, including a Cinco de Mayo celebration, 4th of July parade and fireworks, BBQ Block Party in July, Fall Festival at the Fountain, and a Tree Lighting and holiday kickoff in early December.
