Located in Walworth County, Linn is a village of over 2,000 that lies along the north and south shores of Geneva Lake. Known for its charming residential neighborhoods, farmland expanses, and lakeside setting, it is a popular summertime destination for residents and visitors alike.
The first settlers in Walworth County arrived at Geneva Lake in the 1830s. In the mid-1830s, Christopher Payne built a log cabin, dam and mill in Geneva Lake, and officially became the county’s first settler. The county was officially created in 1838, and was named in honor of Judge Reuben Hyde Walworth, the president of the New York State Temperance Society. There were initially five towns, and in 1846 the number became 17, where it presently stands today. Today, the unincorporated communities of Linton and Zenda are located within the town of Linn.
Linn offers residents and visitors direct access to Geneva Lake, which serves as a venue for leisure activities including boating, skiing, swimming, fishing, and canoeing. A variety of dining options can be found in nearby towns such as Fontana and Lake Geneva, which boasts The Tuscan Tavern & Grill and Ristorante Brissago, among other local favorites.
