About Carol Stream

When developer Jay Stream became frustrated with red tape while building a subdivision in a nearby village, a clerk told him to go start his own town. So he did – and he named it Carol Stream after his daughter, Carol.

Located in DuPage County, Carol Stream has been ranked by CNN Money as one of the 100 best places to live in the United States. The community’s extensive parks department includes over 35 parks as well as recreational fields, tennis and basketball courts, biking and hiking trails, running and walking paths and a playground area. There is plenty to do year-round – from fishing and boating to ice skating and sledding.

Consolidated School District 93 serves the majority of the village, providing K-8 education with six elementary schools and two middle schools. High school students attend nearby Glenbard North, part of Glenbard Township High School District 87, which is located in Carol Stream.

The Illinois Central Railroad operates a feeder line through Carol Stream, which runs through the main industrial complex of the town.

Six major roads run through the village, the largest being North Avenue which runs through the center of town and extends 30 miles east into Chicago and further west across the state.
