About Glen Ellyn

Located 22 miles west of downtown Chicago, Glen Ellyn was incorporated in 1892. The village is known for its motto, “Village of Volunteers,” and is considered one of the most affluent communities in DuPage County.

Originally called Babcock's Grove, the community was officially named Glen Ellyn in 1891 when it was founded as a health resort. Today, abundant area recreation includes 29 parks, the Willowbrook Wildlife Preserve, an 18-hole golf course and access to the Illinois Prairie Path. The quaint charm of the historic business district and varied architectural styles set amidst mature trees make Glen Ellyn a highly sought after western suburb.

Glen Ellyn students are served by the Glen Ellyn School District 41, Community Consolidated School District 89 and Glenbard Township High School District 87. The community is also home to the main campus of College of DuPage, boasting famed alumni and comedy legends, the late John Belushi and his brother, Jim Belushi.

Along with easy access to major highways and Interstate tollways, the Metra Union Pacific West Line runs through Glen Ellyn, providing daily train service to the Ogilvie Transportation Center in downtown Chicago.

Offering everything from ranches and split levels to stately Victorian homes, Glen Ellyn is architecturally diverse. The 2012 average sales price of a single-family home in Glen Ellyn was $410,382 (source: Midwest Real Estate Data, LLC).
