About Lake In The Hills
We’re guessing it comes as no surprise that the Village of Lake in the Hills has lots of lakes—and hills.
What you may not know about the McHenry County village is that it offers residents a vibrant mix of businesses and shopping as well as recreation.
The community is committed to a sustainable environment and economy. The village’s Green Initiative includes tree-planting programs and recycling programs as well as community garden plots. Lake in the Hills’ growing business community includes major shopping districts along the Randall Road Corridor with movie theaters, restaurants, and retailers.
Lakes are the village’s shining jewels. Woods Creek Lake is popular with two sand beaches for residents to enjoy: Indian Trail Beach and Butch Hagele Beach. There’s also Goose Lake, which is great for fishing, and wildlife ponds Willow Lake and Lake Scott.
Recreational activities include 32 parks offering a variety of activities from soccer fields and basketball courts to playgrounds, picnic areas, and beaches. Residents also enjoy special events and festivals including the ever-popular Ribfest, Summer Sunset Fest, and Spring Fling Carnival.
Transportation includes the Lake in the Hills Airport, a public airport serving the McHenry County area. Several four-lane county highways are accessible to neighborhoods and businesses, as well as Route 31.
Homes include both old and new. The original section of homes includes four neighborhoods with an eclectic mix of home styles. Newer subdivisions include ranch homes, single-family homes both large and small, townhomes, condominiums, and gated communities including Boulder Ridge subdivision, which has the village’s only 18-hole golf course.
