About Bannockburn

Located approximately 30 miles from Chicago, Bannockburn is a tranquil neighborhood known for its plentiful open spaces. The rural community was first settled in 1835 when Irish immigrants arrived in the area. Scottish architect and builder William Aitken then brought residential development to the community after planning an inland of country estates across more than 100 acres of land. Bannockburn was ultimately incorporated as a village in 1929, at which time there were 30 families living in the town.

Housing stock in Bannockburn includes large homes on expansive lots – many of which are set back from main roads and surrounded by mature trees. The average sales price for a single-family home in Bannockburn was $590,500 in 2012 (source: Midwest Real Estate Data, LLC).

Bannockburn is served by Bannockburn School District 106 and Deerfield High School. Situated just east of the Tri-State Tollway, Bannockburn offers convenient transportation to and from downtown Chicago. The neighboring community of Deerfield also provides residents with plenty of nearby shopping and dining opportunities.

Residents enjoy the various outdoor activities thanks to the many biking and hiking trails in the area. Bannockburn has been home to a number of notable residents including former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka and former Chicago Bulls coach Phil Jackson.
