About Burr Ridge
Burr Ridge residents enjoy living large with big beautiful houses in one of the wealthiest towns in the state.
It wasn’t always that way. At one time, the community was home to the Cook County Prison Farm. There was talk of turning the prison farm into subsidized housing but political forces shut it down. Instead the site one day became a gated community with multi-million dollar homes.
A tributary of the Des Plaines River runs through the town. Glaciers carved the village’s rolling hills during the Ice Age. Farms were developed into subdivisions, open land became parks and interstate highways 294 and 55 spurred industrial development.
Today the suburb located in Cook and DuPage counties is bordered by Hinsdale to the north, Western Springs to the northeast, Indian Head Park to the east, Willow Springs to the south and southeast and Willowbrook to the west.
The community includes 10 major parks including Harvester Park, home to the park district.
Students attend Hinsdale Township High School District 86 including Hinsdale Central High School and Hinsdale South High School; and Lyons Township High School District 204.
