About Green Oaks
Neighborhood — A small and proud community, Green Oaks is located in Libertyville Township, 35 miles north of Chicago in Lake County. Founded in 1960 when the name was officially changed from Oak Grove to Green Oaks, the village was first settled by Irish immigrants in the 1840’s.
From its inception, village ordinance provided for a pattern of one, two, and five acre lot residential zoning and strict standards over environmentally sensitive lands. William D. Shaw, the first village president stated in 1960 that "the village is not prey for the selfish real estate interests bent on building shanty towns, but strives instead to be a community of high merit."
Housing — Green Oaks home prices are not only among the most expensive in Illinois, but also consistently ranks among the most expensive real estate in America. Most residences in Green Oaks are owner-occupied single family homes. Green Oaks is the 337th largest community in Illinois.
Commuter transportation by rail is available at the nearby Libertyville and Grayslake train stations, providing daily routes to Union Station in downtown Chicago. The I-294 Illinois Tollway and I-94 and Route 41 are easily accessible by car.
Schools — Students are served by two elementary schools, Oak Grove School District 68 and Rondout School, as well as Vernon Hills High School and Libertyville High School for students in grades 9-12. Private education is also offered and includes the award-winning Carmel Catholic High School.
Lifestyle — Green Oaks is rich in tradition that affords the pleasantries of quiet country living, excellent schools, access to major highways and tollways, single family homes on large lots, all complemented by a growing commercial and retail business district, including Green Oak Village Place, Livingston County’s premier shopping destination, and local farmers market.
