About Island Lake
As every city-dweller knows, sometimes you feel like escaping to an island. Fortunately, there’s Island Lake just a few miles away in the northwest suburbs.
Island Lake, incorporated in 1952, is a small island-centric community located in Lake and McHenry counties. The village is 0.21 square miles of water.
In addition to being a great place to escape, the village offers residents plenty to do with shopping centers and recreational activities from beaches to baseball diamonds.
Popular attractions include Big Foot Beach State Park and Chain O’Lakes State Park along with a zoo, wild-west town, art museum and several popular breweries.
The community comes together for its annual Lakefest in Water Tower Park, which includes a carnival, car show and fireworks; and concerts in the park throughout the summer.
