About La Grange

All roads lead to La Grange, just one of the reasons the suburb 14 miles west of Chicago is a popular place to call home.

The Village was named one of the area’s top transit suburbs. It’s no wonder: Four state highways cross its boundaries; and Interstate 290, I-55 and the Tri-State Tollway provide easy access to both airports and the Chicago Loop within 30 minutes. The Village has two commuter railway stations with service via Metra and Amtrak.

Of course, location is not all that La Grange has to offer. The community, incorporated in 1879, also has notable historic homes, top-rated schools, a charming downtown and a historic district designated by the National Trust for Historic Places.

La Grange has a variety of single-family homes in a range of styles and prices. Many homes are architecturally significant and have been carefully restored to preserve their original charm, including Victorian, Queen Anne and Prairie School style homes. The Village has a few homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, including a “bootleg” house he designed on the side while working for architect Louis Sullivan.

The Village’s vibrant downtown offers dining, shopping, nightlife and entertainment including a multi-screen movie theater. The Village has been featured in Chicago magazine and other publications as one of the best downtowns and best places to live.

The Village hosts a number of popular events including the annual Pet Parade, craft show, Endless Summerfest and West End Art festival as well as seasonal and holiday events. Residents also enjoy recreational areas and programs, with 11 parks covering 69 acres.

La Grange students attend nationally ranked Lyons Township High School. Six elementary schools and two junior high schools also serve the community.
