About Mt. Prospect


The village of Mount Prospect is located 22 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, and encompasses over ten square miles in Cook County. The area was first inhabited by the Potawatomi tribe, and in 1833, a treaty was signed with the Potawatomi to have the land also become available for New England settlers. By the 1840s, German immigrants followed and settled in the area.

In the 1870s, entrepreneur Ezra Eggleston, who built the village's first train station, named the land he purchased Mount Prospect;
