About Oak Brook


Located approximately 17 miles west of downtown Chicago, Oak Brook is an affluent village home to a number of prominent corporations, including McDonald's, which is headquartered in the community.

Oak Brook's beginnings date back to the 1890s, when Frank Osgood Butler bought a summer home in the area. In 1922, his son, businessman Paul Butler, established the Oak Brook Polo Club and is credited for the development of Oak Brook. The town was officially incorporated as a village in 1958, and more land was acquired afterwards, including the area of what is now the Oakbrook Center shopping mall.

The community consists of Butler School District 53, which offers Brook Forest Elementary School and Butler Junior High School. High school students in the community primarily attend Hinsdale Central High School. With its proximity to Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway and the Tri-State Tollway, Oak Brook is easily accessible by car, while the nearby CTA Green, Blue and Pink Lines serve as convenient public transportation options.

Each year the community hosts several popular events, including the Taste of Oak Brook.
