Single Family Homes in Palatine

About Palatine

Situated 30 miles northwest of Chicago and 14 miles from O'Hare International Airport, the Village of Palatine is the 18th largest community in Illinois. The village is known for its picturesque streams that rise around the village, its tranquil atmosphere and excellent park district.

The area was first settled in the 1830s when New Englanders traveled west to establish roots in the fertile green prairies. The village was ultimately founded in 1866 by Joel Wood, who surveyed the land and designed the community. Various rail lines have always been central to Palatine's community, putting metropolitan cultural and business opportunities within easy reach.

Part of Chicago's growing suburban sprawl, Palatine is home to many subdivisions offering spacious homes and lots. Palatine has been in the process of revitalizing its downtown area, with a new passenger train station, a nearby parking garage, and several new condominiums, row homes, and commercial buildings. The average sales price for a single-family home in Palatine was $302,704 in 2012, while the average condominium cost $112,210 (source: Midwest Real Estate Data, LLC).

The Village of Palatine boasts the award-winning Community Consolidated School District 15 for public elementary schools, and Township High School District 211 for public high schools. In 2003, CCSD15 was awarded the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award by then-President, George W. Bush. Students attend one of two high schools, Palatine High School and William Fremd High School. There are also two public junior high schools: Walter R. Sundling Junior High, and Winston Campus
