About Roscoe Village

Roscoe Village is a North Side neighborhood defined by Roscoe Street, which bisects the neighborhood and offers residents a vibrant mix of businesses and residences just six miles northwest of Chicago's downtown.

Populated by more than 6,200 residents, the Fox Indians started inhabiting the area in the 18th century, and German and Swedish immigrants settled in Roscoe Village during the latter part of the 19th century. Many of Roscoe Village's residential blocks still maintain Old World architectural charm from this era.

Roscoe Village is served by three public neighborhood elementary schools, including Chicago's No. 1 ranked k-8 Alexander Graham Bell Elementary School, and one public neighborhood high school.

Single-family homes dominate many of the garden-rich lots, though three-story conventional walkups and duplexes can also be found in the neighborhood. A rise in luxury new construction real estate has also started to dot the landscape, giving this charming Chicago village an increasingly metropolitan feel. The average sales price for a single-family home in Roscoe Village was $865,363 in 2012, and the average condominium was $329,792 (source: Midwest Real Estate Data, LLC).

The Chicago Park District recently renovated Roscoe Village's Fellger Park and Playlot, offering nearly an acre of playground equipment, sculptural water fountains and benches. The CTA's Brown Line has two stops in Roscoe Village, offering residents many routes around Chicago.

The Roscoe Village community takes pride in its dozens of local eateries, including the popular southern-style Wishbone, and Scooter's, one of Chicago's best old-school ice cream parlors. First-class boutiques such as designer children's store Little Threads attract shoppers looking for unique items. Roscoe Village's nightlife tends to be a laid-back bar scene with jukebox music and tables aplenty. Beat Kitchen offers live music and the Viaduct Theater showcases up-and-coming performances. The neighborhood thrives during the summer, when residents flock to two main music festivals: Retro on Roscoe and the Belmont Arts and Music Festival.
