About Round Lake

Located approximately 50 miles from downtown Chicago, Round Lake Beach is a charming community situated along Round Lake.

Incorporated as a village in 1937, Round Lake Beach began to take shape in the 1930s thanks to real estate developer L.B. Harris, who began to offer inexpensive homes in the area. The village expanded rapidly following World War II, as many families were seeking to move farther from the city.

The average sales price for a single-family home in the Round Lake Beach MLS area, which also includes Round Lake, Round Lake Heights and Round Lake Park, was $99,827 in 2012. There are also condominiums in the area, which sold for an average of $70,020 in 2012 (source: Midwest Real Estate Data, LLC).

Students in Round Lake Beach are primarily served by Round Lake Area Schools Community School District 116, which includes five elementary schools, two middle schools and Round Lake High School. The community also has a Metra station on Metra's North Central Line, providing transportation to Chicago's Loop.

Residents have access to several neighborhood parks including Lake Shore Park, which features a beach, boat launch and two playgrounds. The Round Lake Area Park District also offers various recreational programs as well as the village's Sports Center and public 18-hole golf course.
