The Village of Volo, originally named Forksville, was thriving for more than a century before it reached a fork in the road: Either incorporate or risk being consumed by surrounding villages.
Volo incorporated in 1993 to protect its way of life. As the community grew, the village developed a comprehensive plan to manage the growth and secure agreements for services from wastewater facilities to drinking water and road improvements as well as the Millennium Trail. The comprehensive plan calls for 50% residential, 40% commercial and 10% open space.
Located 41 miles northwest of the Loop, Volo is home to the Volo Auto Museum located near the Volo Bog State Natural Area. The Bog area was the Illinois Nature Conservancy’s first purchase, ensuring its preservation.
The Lake County village is easily accessible by US Route 12; and Illinois routes 59, 60 and 120.
