About Bloomfield

Bloomfield is part of the Bloomfield Area. Located in Walworth County, in southeast Wisconsin, Bloomfield is a town of 5,000 along the Illinois-Wisconsin border. Due to its proximity to a number of major lakes, including Geneva Lake, Bloomfield is a popular destination for residents who wish to experience the natural beauty of Wisconsin.

The area was first settled in 1846, and took the name ‘Bloomfield’ from the prairie flowers which surround the community. Bloomfield is the name of both a town and village located in Walworth County, with the village being developed from formerly unincorporated areas of the town. Unincorporated areas located within the Town of Bloomfield include Lake Ivanhoe and North Bloomfield, while the census-designated places of Pell Lake and Powers Lake are located in the Village of Bloomfield. There have been numerous efforts to unify the area over the years, with the most recent in 2011. On December 20, 2011, the Village of Bloomfield attempted to annex the entire Township of Bloomfield. However, this action was denied by the courts, and only the unincorporated areas of the township were annexed. Today, they remain two separate entities, if only on paper.

Lake Geneva Area School District, located in nearby Lake Geneva, is responsible for schooling in the area. The district is comprised of five schools, three elementary schools, as well as Lake Geneva Middle School and Badger High School. Interstate 43 is located just minutes from Bloomfield, and along with U.S. Highway 12 and 14, provide for easy access across the state, as well as throughout the Midwest. General Mitchell International Airport, in Milwaukee, is less than 45 minutes from Bloomfield.

Bloomfield is home to four lakes, as well as over 15 acres of parks, which offer opportunities for residents and visitors to experience all that the area has to offer. Geneva Lake, located just minutes away in Lake Geneva, is one of the largest lakes in the state, and is a popular destination for summer aquatic recreation. Wisconsin is known for its fish boils, but of all the restaurants in the state, not many have received higher reviews than Fitzgerald’s. Located in nearby Genoa City, Fitzgerald’s serves cod in the famous “Door County Style,” and is a favorite among locals.
