About Bohners Lake

Bohners Lake is part of the Burlington Area. Located in both Racine and Walworth Counties, Burlington is a town of 10,000 in southeast Wisconsin.

Although the Potawatomi Native Americans lived around the area for many years, they never settled within the limits of what is presently Burlington. The first settlers arrived in 1799 when four French explorers arrived via the Fox River. Settlement began in earnest in the middle of the 19th century, and the town was initially named Foxville. However, in 1836, residents voted to change the name to Burlington, after the town of the same name in Vermont. It was not until July 15, 1839 that this name change became official. Burlington was officially incorporated as a village in 1886, and as a city 14 years later, in 1900.

The Burlington Area School District is responsible for K-12 schooling in Burlington and the surrounding areas. Serving over 3,500 students, the district is comprised of 7 schools: four elementary schools, one intermediate school, one middle school, and Burlington High School. There are a number of private schools located in Burlington, including St. Charles Elementary School and Catholic Central High School. Interstate access is available via Interstates 43 and 94, while the Burlington Municipal Airport is home to private aviation in the area.

Echo Lake and the Fox River are both located in Burlington, and are popular destinations for outdoor recreation during the summer months. Echo Lake in particular is known for its popularity among fishermen and women. For nearly 50 years, Burlington has been home to a Nestle chocolate factory, and is aptly known as “Chocolate City, USA.” Every Memorial Day weekend, the town hosts “ChocolateFest,” drawing attendees from across the state, as well as throughout the Midwest. Locally-renowned theatre group Haylofters Inc., in operation since 1932, preforms at The Malt House Theatre, a downtown Burlington fixture for over 150 years.
