About Sugar Creek

Located in Walworth County, Sugar Creek is a town of 3,000 located in southeast Wisconsin. Although a relatively small town, Sugar Creek is home to the unincorporated communities of Millard, Tibbets and Abells Corners.

John Davis was the first settler to arrive in Sugar Creek in 1836. The town steadily grew over the years as the Tibbets family began to heavily develop the area, building a tavern and a post office. The unincorporated community of Tibbets that stands today owes its name to this founding family. In the 1870s, a church, store, schoolhouse and various other shops were built in the community, officially putting Sugar Creek on the map.

For over 150 years, the nearby town of Elkhorn has held the annual Walworth County Fair. The fair is now held at the Walworth County Fairgrounds, and is the largest county fair in the state. Geneva Lake, covering over eight square miles, is located in nearby Lake Geneva, and is one of the most popular lakes in southeastern Wisconsin. For nearly a century, neighboring town Elkhorn has been known as the “Christmas Card Town,” due to the elaborate Christmas decorations placed in the city center every holiday season. It is marked by a celebration which draws residents from across the county, and features local artists, who create watercolors for Christmas cards.
