Old Town

Old Town is one of the most impressive areas of Chicago whether you are someone who is looking for a new home or you are just passing through the city on a vacation. Many of the locals call the area the Old Town Triangle based on the boundaries. It sits inside the areas of Lincoln Park and the Near North Side. It is a part of Chicago's 43rd Ward. The boundary to the north is Armitage Ave. Division Street is the boundary to the south. Halsted Street is on the west, and Clark Street is on the east. The actual boundaries considered by the locals though form something of a rough triangle, thus the name.

The History

Old Town has a long history, with the first settlers being German immigrants in the 1850s. Time wore on, and in the 1960s, the Old Town area came under the influence of hippie culture. The area has been home to many different cultures and groups through the years, and now it is one of the hottest neighborhoods in the city. The Old Town Triangle Historic District is an affluent area, and you will be able to find some great old buildings here.

Old Town is a perfect place to live for anyone who wants to enjoy the real historic areas of the city. You will be able to find Victorian era buildings, old theaters, places to dine and shop, and much more when you visit or move to Old Town.

The Cost of Living

The cost of homes and renting homes in this area is a bit higher than it might be in other parts of the city, mostly because of the quality of the homes and the area. Old Town has a number of affluent residents, so it is natural that the prices are going to be higher. The neighborhood itself is actually a bit nicer than you would find in some other areas as well.

One of the things that help to make the area so desirable is the fact that you will be able to walk to many of the places that you want to visit. You are going to be able to walk to shops and restaurants such as Bistrot Margot, Eat a Pita, The Fireplace Inn, and O'Brien's for a great meal and a drink. A nice clothing shop that women might like to visit is Handle with Care, which offers upscale clothes and accessories.

More Great Features

Those who are thinking about moving to the area will find plenty of other things to love as well. The schools are great, so if you have children, you can be sure that they are going to be attending a high-quality school. You can visit Second City to see the improved troupe, visit some standup comedy clubs, take in a night at the theater, and much more. You will find that public transportation is readily available as well, which is nice if you do not have a vehicle, or you would rather not drive.
