West End

The West End neighborhood in the Northwest quadrant of Washington, D.C. is a gem that has been gaining popularity in recent years. It is bounded by the prestigious K Street NW to the south, the lush Rock Creek Park to the west and north, and the vibrant New Hampshire Avenue NW and 21st Street NW to the east. The area got its name as it was once the westernmost part of the original L'Enfant Plan for the city of Washington, long before the annexation of Georgetown.

The West End is home to some of the world's most renowned embassies, including Qatar and Spain, as well as the Delegation of the European Union to the United States. The George Washington University and George Washington University Hospital are also situated in the West End, adding to the community's prestigious profile.

Luxury hotels, upscale condominiums, and fine dining restaurants have found their home in the West End, and this is partly due to a 1972 urban renewal plan prepared by the city's Office of Planning and Management. Dubbed the "New Town for the West End," the plan was aimed at reviving a declining part of the city. The area quickly blossomed, and the aerial photograph on the cover of the study depicted the vision of a "new intown community."

The West End is adjacent to the upscale neighborhoods of Georgetown, Foggy Bottom, Dupont Circle, and Downtown. As it continues to flourish, hundreds of new luxury condominiums are currently under construction or in the planning phase, turning this once-sleepy neighborhood into a hub of upscale living and vibrant entertainment.
