Hyattsville

Hyattsville, named after its founder Christopher Clark Hyatt, is a charming city that offers a blend of history and modernity. Hyatt purchased his first piece of land in the area in 1845 and opened a store, which became the foundation of the community. Hyattsville grew rapidly due to its strategic location at the intersection of the Washington and Baltimore Turnpike and the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad line.

The historic district of Hyattsville, which includes Victorian houses and Sears bungalows built between the late 1880s and the early 1940s, is a popular tourist destination. The district is roughly bounded by East-West Highway to the north, Route 1 to the east, the 38th Street Neighborhood Park to the south, and Queens Chapel Road to the west.

Hyattsville consists of six subdivisions, each with its own unique character, such as the charming Hyattsville Hills, the bustling Downtown Hyattsville, and the peaceful Castle Manor. The city has experienced a significant revitalization in recent years, with new residential and retail developments in the Arts District Hyattsville private development and the area surrounding Prince George's Plaza.

University Town Center, which opened in 2007, is a major development that includes residential condos, student housing, office buildings, a public plaza, and retail space. The location is popular with university students due to its proximity to several colleges and universities, including the University of Maryland, College Park. The National Center for Health Statistics, part of the Department of Health and Human Services, is headquartered in Hyattsville and located at University Town Center.

Whether you are looking for history, culture, or modern amenities, Hyattsville has something for everyone.
