Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Corktown is the oldest neighborhood in Detroit and is known for its variety of great bars and restaurants. Established in the 1830s, the neighborhood is made up primarily of single-family homes and retains much of its original historic charm. The area has also seen an increase in adaptive reuse in recent years, as former industrial structures like the old Grinnell Brothers Piano Factory have been converted into condos and lofts. Thanks to its location only two blocks west of Detroit’s central business district, Corktown is a hopping neighborhood experiencing increasing development.
