Ringwood

With one of the smallest populations in McHenry County, the Village of Ringwood takes pride in its community feel. The town was originally plotted for agricultural use and was given its name because of the ring of trees that surrounded the area.

Today, Ringwood offers a mix of historic structures, single-family homes, apartments, and subdivisions. Among the area's historic properties is the Ringwood Post Office, which was established in 1845 and remains the village's central fixture. In addition to the post office, downtown Ringwood features local dining options.

On Ringwood's northern border is Glacial Park, which contains over 490 acres of dedicated nature preserve and a variety of plant and animal species. The park offers hiking, fishing, bird watching, and picnicking, as well as a visitor's center with exhibits, programs, outdoor concerts, and environmental workshops. During the winter months, snowmobiling trails, cross country skiing, and sledding are also popular.
