Harbert

Located just 90 minutes from Chicago, Harbert is a thriving Lake Michigan community. Founded by Scandinavian families, this small town has a rich heritage that is still evident today. Harbert was once the home of poet Carl Sandburg, and while the town has changed since Mr. Sandburg’s days, it still exudes the same charm and character with its many art galleries, antique shops and restaurants.

Housing in Harbert, Harbor Country – Like its neighboring towns, Harbert offers a variety of Southwest Michigan real estate options - including cottages, condominiums, contemporary homes and Lake Michigan waterfront homes.

Lifestyle – Harbert residents and visitors enjoy a variety of fantastic dining options. Among the most popular restaurants in the community are Luisa’s Café and the Harbert Swedish Bakery, which has been open for more than 80 years. During the summer, Harbert hosts “Umbrellas of Harbert,” a charity auction which features a display of original, hand-painted umbrellas designed by local artists.

Just a quick jaunt to the north is Sawyer and Warren Dunes State Park, a fun outing with endless Lake Michigan beauty.
