Woodruff Place

The historic community of Woodruff Place is recognized as Indianapolis’s first planned residential suburb. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 and is the only downtown historic neighborhood that is 100% residential.

With an active group of residents, the Woodruff Place Civic League hosts a variety of events that further enhance the community’s sense of camaraderie. Events include neighborhood cleanups as well as celebrations for the Fourth of July and Halloween. The Civic League also has a non-profit arm, the Woodruff Place Foundation, which raises money for infrastructure improvements and restorations.

A wide range of architectural styles can be found in Woodruff Place, including Victorian homes from the late 19th century. There are also many examples of Queen Anne-style homes throughout the neighborhood, along with Georgian Revivals, English Tudors, Bungalows, American Foursquares, and Colonial Revivals.
