Hinsdale

Situated 20 miles west of Chicago's Loop, Hinsdale is an affluent suburb characterized by its beautiful homes and tree-lined streets.

Originally known as Brush Hill, Hinsdale was founded in the 1860s when William Robbins purchased 6,400 acres of land in the area. The community was eventually renamed Hinsdale in 1873, when it was incorporated as a village. Today, Hinsdale is a thriving town home to more than 18,000 residents.

Hinsdale offers a wide variety of architectural styles, ranging from historic homes to Bungalows, Ranches and Split-levels. The average sales price for a single-family home in the community was $912,601 in 2012 (source: Midwest Real Estate Data, LLC).

The town is served by Community Consolidated School District 181 and the Hinsdale Township High School District 86, which consists of Hinsdale Central High School and Hinsdale South High School. Hinsdale Central has been ranked by Newsweek Magazine as one of the best high schools in the country. Residents can commute easily to surrounding suburbs and downtown Chicago thanks to the Tri-State Tollway, Stevenson Expressway, and three train stations along Metra's BNSF railway.

Offering a variety of shops and restaurants, downtown Hinsdale is recognized as a National Historic District. The community has an abundance of public amenities, including the Katherine Legge Memorial Park and Lodge, the Hinsdale Community Swimming Pool, and numerous parks with athletic facilities such as tennis courts, baseball fields and soccer fields. Several notable people have lived in Hinsdale over the years, including Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville and television personalities Bill and Giuliana Rancic.
