Lake Zurich

Located approximately 37 miles from downtown Chicago, Lake Zurich is a thriving residential community that once served as a summer resort in the early 20th century.

The area encompassing today's Lake Zurich was originally settled in the 1830s by European immigrants, followed by New England farmers and then German immigrants by the mid-19th century. The village was incorporated in 1896 and remained dedicated to farming until 1927 when the establishment of US Route 12 (Rand Road) and Illinois Route 22 (Half Day Road) helped define Lake Zurich as a resort community.

Public schools in Lake Zurich include five elementary schools including Isaac Fox, Sarah Adams, Seth Paine, Spencer Loomis, and May Whitney schools. Middle school students are served by Lake Zurich Middle Schools North and South, and high school students attend Lake Zurich High School. Private school options include St. Francis de Sales Catholic School and St. Matthew Lutheran School.

Lake Zurich has been named one of the best places to raise a family by Frommer's travel guide. It was also recognized by U.S. News as one of the most affordable places to live in the United States. In addition to numerous shopping options along the Half Day Road corridor, nearby Deer Park Town Center at the southwest corner of Rand and Long Grove Roads offers an upscale open air shopping center with over 70 retail stores and restaurants.

Every summer, the Lake Zurich Chamber presents the Taste of the Towns, featuring samplings from many local eateries, wineries and breweries, picnic and pavilion seating, and live entertainment.
