Many pre-Civil War buildings remain in Long Grove, including farmhouses, homes, and independently owned merchant stores. Plaques adorn each structure, giving acknowledgement to the original owners as well as recognizing their importance to the history of the village. Strict building ordinances protect the country feel and atmosphere of the community. The 2012 average sales price for a single family home was $422,830, and $231,013 for a condominium.
Long Grove students are served by two elementary schools, one middle school, four private schools, and the award-winning Stevenson High School. The village is accessible via the Tri-State Tollway and several state highways, including Route 53.
The community's Historic Village is a popular regional attraction, hosting annual chocolate, strawberry, and apple festivals that take place in May, June, and October, respectively. Year-round shoppers enjoy the village's gracious merchants and the historic feel of the cobblestone streets and stores, which feature unique home décor, gifts, and food and wine.
