Just off of Interstate 94 lies a small town at the heart of “Red Arrow country,” the city of Hartford, Michigan. Conveniently located between Chicago and Detroit, and close to regional urban centers like Kalamazoo and Benton Harbor, Hartford offers an array of amenities that one would not expect from a small town.

Located in Van Buren County, one of the oldest “cabinet counties” in the nation, Hartford boasts some of the most historic homes not just in Michigan, but in the entire country. The Meachum House, built in 1865, is located in Hartford’s scenic downtown.

The Hartford Public School System has served the community for over 100 years. 1,200 students are enrolled in the district across four schools, and adult and community education is also offered for those who wish to further their education. Daily Amtrak service is available from nearby Bangor, with daily trips to Chicago and Detroit. Hartford is located at Exit 46 on Interstate 94, which permits easy east-west travel, to Chicago, Detroit and beyond.

Hartford and its residents are well aware that one of the attributes that makes their town great is their ability to promote economic growth while maintaining a small town charm and feel. An extremely close-knit community, local businesses strive to create opportunities and benefits for all residents. The Van Buren Trail, a horse and snowmobile trail, runs through Hartford; while the Hartford Motor Speedway attracts thousands of visitors throughout most months of the year. Annually in early June, Hartford hosts the Strawberry Festival, a community event which draws hundreds of people to the village, and is a signature summer event in the area.
