Oak Brook

The affluent village of Oak Park is home to 7,800 residents, but 90,000 if you count the people who come here every day for business and shopping.

The bustling suburb 15 miles west of downtown Chicago offers an impressive destination for shopping, dining, hotels, golf and recreation.

The village was smaller when it was incorporated in 1958, but it soon annexed the land that became the site of Oak Brook Center shopping mall.

In addition to the shopping center, the village is home to several corporations and once home to residents including billionaire business leaders including Ty Warner founder of Ty toys fame; and Dick Portillo, founder of the Portillo Restaurant Group.

Early homeowners and farmers founded the Community Club In the mid-1930s to establish Oak Brook as separate from neighboring communities. Paul Butler, son of an early settler and farmer, started buying up land with an eye to building a planned community. He established the multiuse sports facility on his property, which included nationally renowned golf and polo clubs.

Oak Brook Golf Club offers a public18-hole golf course, annual polo matches and facilities including a pro shop, grill and outdoor patio overlooking the course.

Residents enjoy various recreational opportunities thanks to the Oak Brook Park District, which features a tennis center, bike bath, disc golf course, fitness center, the Dean Nature Sanctuary and 150 acres of park.

Oak Brook has several fine-dining restaurants often found in larger cities including steakhouses, French and Italian cuisines.

The village has numerous residential subdivisions offering an array of housing options from historic homes dating back to 1912 to new construction single-family homes.

Butler School District 53 serves the community with Brook Forest Elementary School and Butler Junior High School. High school students attend Hinsdale Central High School.

Oak Brook is easily accessible by car with its proximity to Ronald Reagan Memorial and the Tri-State tollways. The nearby CTA Green, Blue and Pink L lines offer convenient public transportation options.
