First settled in 1839, Oak Park had a population boom after the Chicago Fire of 1871 and was incorporated in 1902.
There are 2,400 historic sites in Oak Park, including three historic districts that preserve the Village’s unique mix of home styles including Victorian, Queen Anne, Craftsman and Prairie School style homes. In addition to architecturally significant homes, the Village has shaded streets, beautiful parks and excellent schools.
The arts remain an important, active part of the community, with several professional dance and theater companies including Circle Theatre.
Residents enjoy parks and recreation with 13 public parks, outdoor pools, dog park, ice-skating rink and Oak Park Conservatory.
