406 S Forest Avenue

Carbondale, Illinois 62901

A unique rehabilitation opportunity in a uniquely Carbondale location! Located directly across the street from the historic R. Buckminster Fuller Dome Home, this property offers an opportunity for an investor, experienced renovator, or buyer looking for a substantial restoration project. The location has a particularly interesting connection to Carbondale history. Buckminster Fuller lived in the Dome Home while teaching at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and his legacy continues to be celebrated locally. The Dome Home was one of the featured locations during the 2026 Fuller Futures Festival, a five-day event held at SIU and throughout Carbondale. The property is also located near the SIU Carbondale campus, adding another level for buyers evaluating its future potential. The home is being offered in its current condition and requires extensive rehabilitation. Electrical wiring, plumbing components and copper have been removed, and buyers should anticipate significant work before occupancy. Due to the property's present condition, interior access is restricted. Offered at $20,000, this may be an opportunity to restore the existing home or investigate other possibilities for the property. Buyers considering long-term rental, short-term rental, redevelopment or another investment strategy should independently verify zoning, permitting, utilities, property condition and allowable uses. Property is being sold as-is. Please do not enter the structure or property without authorization.
