Barrington

The Village of Barrington may have the largest residential historic district in the state but it’s definitely not living in the past.

Many of the beautifully restored Victorian, Gothic and Queen Anne homes that line the Village’s main streets have been repurposed as unique professional buildings, shops and businesses. Homeowners have rehabbed and restored many historic homes back to their former glory with the addition of modern amenities.

A dairy ice house built in 1904 has been transformed and expanded into a collection of specialty shops. The Village’s historic theater, opened in 1927, still operates today. The stately vintage homes on Main Street now house wedding boutiques, law firms and dentist offices.

Located 35 miles northwest of Chicago, Barrington has one of the wealthiest zip codes in the country, one of the largest residential districts on the National Register of Historic Places, top-rated schools, a convenient commute and the great outdoors.

Barrington’s Citizens Park is one of the area’s gems. The sprawling park has wide-open spaces as well as tennis and basketball courts, cross-country ski trails, biking and walking paths, an events pavilion and a tree house. The park trail also connects to Cuba Marsh Forest Preserve.

The Village’s downtown center is busy with shoppers, diners and residents enjoying one of the area’s special events including an art festival, wine walk and farmer’s market. The Barrington Metra station, located within walking distance, provides a convenient commute to downtown Chicago. Diners will find plenty of options a quick stroll away – from a good old-fashioned breakfast to classic Italian, pub food or delicious desserts.

Homes range from Victorian and Colonials to stunning new construction and sprawling mansions on winding tree-lined drives with large lots and water views.

The Barrington 220 School District includes Barrington High School, ranked by Newsweek as one the best public schools in America.
