Located approximately 15 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, Park Ridge is a charming community known for its tree-lined streets and numerous parks. The Des Plaines River runs along the western edge of the town, dividing it from its neighboring community.
Originally named Pennyville after local businessman George Penny, the area was first inhabited by the Potawatami Native Americans, followed by settlers from New England and New York in the early 1830s. Penny, who built the first brickyard in town, later renamed the community Brickton. Park Ridge ultimately got its name when the town was incorporated as a village in 1873. The community experienced rapid growth following World War II, and today, Park Ridge is home to nearly 40,000 residents.
Park Ridge is architecturally diverse, offering everything from Victorians and Tudors to ranches and bungalows. The average sold price for a single-family home in Park Ridge was $387,138 in 2012 (source: MRED, LLC).
The community is served by two highly-regarded school districts: Park Ridge-Niles School District 64 and Maine Township High School District 207. Transportation to and from the area is easily accessible via the Kennedy Expressway, the Tri-State Tollway and Metra's Union Pacific Northwest Line.
Park Ridge is home to the historic Pickwick Theater, a landmark art deco building which is a movie theater and also a venue for plays, concerts and the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra. The town also offers a number of special events for residents and visitors throughout the year, including the Park Ridge Farmers Market, the Taste of Park Ridge, and Concerts in the Park. A stroll through downtown Park Ridge takes you past various retail shops and restaurants like Cream of the Crepe and Blu Fish Sushi Bistro. Several notable residents have also lived in the community, including U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and actor Harrison Ford.
